How do I add an item?
Tap the blue + button. Scan the barcode, add a photo or type a name, then pick a Cold Spot and a category. Answer “Frozen on” with Today, a date or Don’t know, and set an expiry date. Tap Save item, or Save and add another to keep going. Inside a Cold Spot, + puts the new item straight into it.
My freezer is already full. How do I add everything quickly?
When you add an item, turn on Add existing items. ColdSpot remembers your “Frozen on” answer and stops asking, so you can enter one item after another. Turn it off again from the same card.
How does Scan label work?
When you scan a barcode that isn’t in your household’s list or in Open Food Facts, ColdSpot offers Scan Label. Photograph the label and it is read on your phone; nothing is uploaded. On devices with Apple Intelligence ColdSpot names the product for you; otherwise tap the words that make up the name. Save the item and the barcode is remembered for next time.
Does ColdSpot work on iPad and iPhone Duo?
Yes. On iPad and the unfolded iPhone Duo the tabs move to a sidebar and an item opens beside the list; folded, the iPhone Duo uses the phone layout. Premium covers every device signed in to the same Apple Account, and with sync on they all show the same inventory.
What are packages?
An item can hold several packages, each with its own count, frozen date and expiry. Adding an item you already have adds a new package instead of overwriting the dates, and packages with the same dates are merged. The minus button always takes from the oldest package. Open the item to take from, edit or add a specific package.
How do take-out reminders work?
Open an item and tap Remind me to take out. Choose Tonight (6 pm), Tomorrow morning (7 am) or Custom, and which package to take out. In a shared household you can remind Only me or Everyone. The notification has a Taken out button, which opens ColdSpot so you can confirm how many you took, and a Snooze button. Take-out reminders are part of Premium. To turn them off on one device, go to Settings › Notifications › Take-out reminders.
Someone in my household didn’t get my take-out reminder.
Each phone schedules the reminder itself after it has synced the change. The other person needs Premium (members of your household get it through you), notifications allowed for ColdSpot and Take-out reminders turned on. If their app is closed, a reminder set only a few minutes ahead can arrive late, so set it at least 10 minutes ahead.
What is a Cold Spot?
A Cold Spot is any place you keep cold food: a freezer, a fridge, a chest freezer in the garage. The app opens on your Cold Spots: tap one to see its items, or All items to see everything. Add, rename and color them in the Cold Spots tab. The free version includes one Cold Spot. If you delete a Cold Spot that still has items, ColdSpot asks where to move them.
The barcode scanner didn’t find my product.
Product names come from Open Food Facts, a free, community-built database. Not every product is listed, especially local or store brands. Type the name instead; it only takes a second. Scanning needs a device with a camera.
How do I share my inventory with my household?
Go to Settings › Sharing and show your QR code or send the share link. The other person opens the link, or scans the code in Settings › Sharing or during setup. Only you need Premium: everyone who joins your household gets Premium too, for as long as they are in it and your Premium is active. Everyone must be signed in to iCloud. New members are asked what to call them, and you can change your own name later under Your name. Anyone with the link can edit, so share it only with people you trust. Regenerate link stops old links and QR codes from working.
My changes don’t show up on another device.
Check that both devices are signed in to iCloud and that ColdSpot is allowed to use iCloud in the iOS Settings app, then open Settings › Sharing and tap Sync Now. Sync needs an internet connection; changes made offline sync when you’re back online.
I’m not getting expiry reminders.
Expiry reminders are on by default. The free version alerts you about the 3 items that expire first; Premium alerts you about every item and adds the expiry summary. Make sure notifications for ColdSpot are allowed in the iOS Settings app, and that Expiry Notifications is on in Settings › Notifications. Notify Before sets how many days ahead you’re warned.
I have Premium but it’s locked on my new device.
Open Settings › Other and tap Restore Purchases, using the same Apple Account you bought Premium with. With Apple Family Sharing, members of your family group get Premium too.
How does the free trial work, and how do I cancel?
New subscribers get the first month of the yearly plan free. The paywall shows the date of your last free day, and ColdSpot reminds you three days before the trial ends. Cancel in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions (or in ColdSpot: Settings › Manage Subscription) at least 24 hours before the trial or period ends, and you won’t be charged again. Your items stay in the app either way; without Premium you can still see, edit and take out everything, you just can’t add more than 15 items. Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel.
How do I back up or move my data?
Settings › Import / Export › Export Data saves all items, packages, categories and Cold Spots, photos included, as one file. Import Data adds them back; existing data is not deleted.
How do I delete my data?
Delete items in the app, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. If you used sync, remove the iCloud copy in the iOS Settings app › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage. See the privacy policy for details.
